Slovenian transmission network
The Slovenian transmission network is owned and operated by the electricity TSO, the company ELES, d.o.o.
The Slovenian transmission network consists mostly of overhead power lines, sometimes underground cable networks and distribution or distribution transformer substations. Transmission network operates at high voltage level of 110 kV, 220 kV and 400 kV for efficient transmission of large power over long distances. All larger Slovenian production facilities are connected to the transmission network, as well as five public distribution networks. In addition, some of the biggest Slovenian consumers are directly supplied from the transmission network.ž
The network is well integrated into the European electricity system, with the interconnectors linked to the networks of the neighbouring countries – Austria, Croatia and Italy. The connection with Hungary is in the preparation phase of construction. These connections have a significant impact on the safety of the Slovenian power system enabling mutual assistance in case of operating difficulties. After opening of the markets, interconnections enable cross-border electricity trade, mainly due to the fact that Slovenia is placed among the countries with very different electricity wholesale prices.
